I did not know that NC State had not even been to the Sweet 16 since 1986.

People remember the 1983 title but State won it all in 1974 as well, it was just sandwiched in that UCLA title run from the late 1960's to the mid 1970's. They were 30-1 that year and beat the Bruins in double OT in the National Semifinal. My dad still says David Thompson is the best college basketball player he's ever seen.
