The question is: If Taibbi gets it, why doesn't our principled Never Trump republicans?

They live in gated communities, get taken care of by lobbyists to live luxury lives, have personal security, and are insulated from the product of their principles. They just want to go to work and DC dinner parties and don’t want to have to deal with toxic co workers and a toxic media.
