I guess Smith is screwed if a bench press competition breaks out of the football field. On the other hand, Speights should be in good shape.

Smith's production (or lack thereof) knocked him well out of the first round. But a GM/coach is going to see the size and potential athleticism (something no one can "coach") and believe they can team him to be a better football player. They'll blame the lack of production on lack of coaching. Not unlike Danielle Hunter when he was at LSU and didn't put up eye-popping numbers.

As for Speights, it's hard to "teach" someone to be bigger, faster, and have quick reaction time. But if you get points for bench-pressing in a game he's probably your guy.

Um, yeah. That's a solid argument, I guess...for the lack of production on the field. Neither did much. In fact, Maason did more early on.

The DIFFERENCE is the eye-popping numbers in pre-draft testing.

MS is 6-5, 301 and ran a 5.01 40 (good) with a 1.75 10 (eh) and a 4.69 shuttle (bad). His vertical and three-cone weren't good either and then 22 reps of 225? Not good.

DH was 6-5, 252 and ran a 4.57! a 4..5..7! Beyond elite! His 10 was 1.57, shuttle was 4.35 and his vertical and three-cone were also high. Then he did 25 reps of 225.

DH's arms were 1" shorter than MS's though so that must have been it, right?

I hope MS makes it, but he didn't perform since his FS season and he didn't test well at all beyond his size.

There are a lot of big guys in the NFL.

I'm sure some team will take him. Maybe the 2nd, but far more likely in the 3rd or 4th.

His lack of recent production and his poor testing won't help.

DH on the other hand, tested through the roof!

THAT is why he was drafted in the 3rd despite almost no production in college.

There's a difference between the two.

potential athleticism

Potential athleticism is wild af... as if he didn't have a chance to show people this athleticism at lsu against worst competition than he will see in the nfl.
