Agreed with your assessment, but the real answer is that the heads of these leagues want to still hold up this illusion that everything they do is "real", despite the fact they clearly use officiating to rig game after game after game after game.

Personally, I don't give a shite of players are betting on games at all. Never have. They are playing in rigged leagues anyway, why not allow them to make extra money? Especially NFL players when you consider how short their careers are and what it does to them physically.
