Maybe it was an accident. These kinds of accidents do happen. And, I'm far from a shipping expert. But, seems to me that if the ship had any control at all, the space without support structure was awfully large for it to still manage a direct hit.
ETA.....Clearly, it was an accident now that more info has come out.
To those losing their minds about "conspiracy" theory. Um. I said it LOOKED bad initially and acknowledged I know crap about shipping. Saying it is "possible" something could be the case is far from saying it IS the case.
Regardless. Clearly, it appears the captain did everything he could to avoid the issue and to warn authorities.

This is going to be the issue. There are videos in the threads here showing it losing power as it approached and by the time they regained steerage, it was too late.

I'm also kinda surprised there were zero escort tugs of any kind.
Obviously, I'm wrong, but I had always thought that when navigating inland and near infrastructure, the big ships had help.

Excellent vid.
Question. Why wouldn't the ship have already been basically on a more dead center course rather than a course?
I do tend to think this was an accident but sheesh, it also looks like a whole series of F-ups too.

After looking at this video to me that’s an accident. I am shocked how quickly it turned (granted the video is speed up)
The good thing is that when it happened I could have sworn that there were no vehicles crossing the bridge at that instant! I could be wrong!

Tell that to the Pilot that hit the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Florida.
There are no escort tugs ....A bus of Greyhound passengers learned the hard way.

I think they do around the docks etc, but I think this one had cleared all that and was headed out to sea.

JFC. We need a conspiracy theory board.

What does Q say happened then?

Yes, it was.
Not everything is a conspiracy

I will need detailed records released before I concede it was accidental - not saying it wasn't; just saying I am not yet convinced...

I have friends that are River Pilots who all have said that when the power goes out you have about 2 minutes in an inland water way to get things started up again before bad things start happening.

I'm sure your acceptance is on the top of their list of priorities.

I also wouldn’t rule out a Muslim terrorist attack as well. Likely accident, but you never know.

I work for a marine transport outfit. We've had our share.
I get frustrated with docking procedures because of all the caution they use.

Yep. And if the power dropped out two minutes later…..it likely clears the bridge and just runs aground in some Chesapeake bay marsh

Ship fuel doesn’t melt steel.
