The cylinder and forcing cone would have powder burn marks that would be visible. You can clean some of it but not all.

Also the guy I bought it from is a very reputable Smith and Wesson collector/dealer.

I figured something like that would be the answer. Although I thought if it had been fired only a handful of times, it would take some type of technology to verify and not by the naked eye... Interesting

They are test fired at the factory.

This is not true and it seems it was all cleaned at some point to where it doesn't show signs of being test fired either.
