The Clash. They're not terrible - "Train in Vain" is an ok song - but they're just so, so milquetoast for a band that is supposed to be one of the most important punk groups of all time. Clown take bro. Who cares how “punk” they sounded. They are one of the most influential bands of all time. They expanded the vocabulary of alternative music tenfold. No one was seamlessly switching genres like they were on London Calling. It’s a flawless album. Their contribution in a nutshell was showing that “punk” was a sensibility, not some lame aesthetic.

To your original point tho, their debut was traditional fast paced punk.
