Excluding any specific games, what events do you recall that really set this place on fire? Keep in mind that I have only been a member since May of 2007 and a lurker for a short while before that, so I would like some historical ones. The 3 that I recall are these...

1) The RP/Varsity brawl. Everyone claimed to know someone who knew something. Everyone had an opinion. There was everything from a brawl to video to racism to a pregnant chick. Rumors and innuendo flew everywhere.

2) The Pokey Chatman saga. This had everything #1 didn't have...scorned female lovers, a lot of "she-said, she-said", a coach fired, new lesbian posters who formed their own alliance. Plenty of rumors and uproar here, too.

3) Saban getting hired at Alabama. Everyone was just pissed about that one. I think this is how I first found this site, actually.

What other good events do you remember?

JM to USC. Crisis mode. Place should have been on lockdown.

I like the answers so far...will anything ever top the drama of the RP/Varsity incident though? This place was way out of control on that whole deal.

Probably not the type you would be interested in. Several of them joined just to post about the Pokey topic...they offered their undying support to her and wondered how she could be so wronged. They were kinda annoying about it...kinda in a tiger20/John Brady way. It got kinda hostile with them and some other posters.

I can remember the Rant when Saban left for Miami, but I think the board was pretty funny when both Smoke and Brady got whacked

With the exception of about 3 people, I think the board rejoiced when Brady got whacked.

Agreed, but he did have his supporters on here, but you are correct- most were glad to see him hit the road. It was funny seeing the comments on how he should have been whacked long ago.

I was def. one of those people. I had a lot of friends who worked at the varsity and were pretty firm with their side of the story....but in retrospect I think everyone was exaggerating in one way or another.

As for another "Historic" event I would have to say the rants reaction to the Monday night football debacle against UT. It was Les's first home game and as we all know we blew the huge lead to give the Vols the win. Everyone wanted Bo Pelini's head that night and rumors spread the next day that Les Miles woke up to For Sale signs in his yard.

ETA: It probably wouldn't have been such a big deal but being the second game into the Les Miles era people were screaming "The sky is falling!"

The 'USC did not win the NC in 2003' discussion rattled on for almost 2 yrs.

I think the Rant's reaction to SFP's reaction to the 3OT loss to Kentucky in 2007 was pretty big too, fwiw imho fyi.

EDIT: Oh, and basically any thread about the JaMarcus Russell's place in the pantheon of LSU quarterbacks, and specifically about his work ethic or love for LSU or whatever, usually elicits strong emotions.

EDIT2: The Joe McKnight to SCAL decision, as well as rumors about NCAA sanctions coming down on SCAL for possible recruiting infractions, were also a big deal for a while.

EDIT3: Discussions about LSU policy about standing during games, or discussions about what constitutes rude or obnoxious behavior during a football game. (Teaching your kids to throw drinks at the Ole Miss band is always a plus, though. )
