An arbitrary number of regular season wins doesn't necessarily = "success"

Ole Miss won 20 regular season games this year.
Mississippi State won 19.

One team is in the NCAA Tournament. And it's not the team that won 20 games.

The absolute bare minimum level of expectation for next season should be to be SERIOUS contender for a NCAA Tournament spot. And that's the bare minimum.

It's been proven multiple times now that a program/team can be completely rebuilt in the matter of ONE offseason. The perpetual excuses for losing should have never flown. But they absolutely should fall upon deaf ears next year. Rick Pitino took an entirely new St. John's team to the brink of the NCAA Tournament this season in his first year there. SJU literally had 12 new players (that's more than McMahon had in his first year at LSU). They likely would be in but for Oregon and NC State unexpectedly winning their conference tournaments. And that was a team Pitino said wasn't any good three weeks ago.

If we are not watching selection Sunday next year with a legitimate chance of LSU's name being called then it will be time to move on because any additional season will be nothing more than prolonging the inevitable.

I agree with you. I’m just tired of the ignorant narrative that our OOC was weak. It wasn’t.

Ole Miss has 20 wins but shite the bed in conference play (seriously 2 of their wins came from Mizzou) and played a super weak OOC schedule.. and barely squeaked by some of their wins.

I agree 20 wins isn’t the end all be all but I do think it is a good benchmark and means you’re close to making the tournament.
