Plumbers don’t give a shite about future clogs for the most part if things were done ‘properly’ to them and to code.
It’s a lot more likely they had a ton of 2” leftover from another job and just used it up.
Newer bathrooms are 1 1/4” now. 2” is vastly overkill.
Op on a drain that’s low pressure there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to get those two pieces screwed together and not leaking with pipe dope. If pipe dope doesn’t solve it then there’s a crack or another issue.
