In metro Atlanta there are rec leagues that are big enough to do it right. When there are 300 kids coming out for 8U or 10U they split the league to about 40% AL and 60% NL. Most AL teams could win A and be competitive in AA travel. The NL is the first timer / babysitting type league. The competition good and equal. Having a 10 year old throwing 50 to a kid who can barely catch is not an issue.

The smaller leagues still have that problem and it drivers better players from smaller leagues to the larger ones.
