I think he was a good singer with a bad arse attitude to go with it. At the time, he was an original with his style. i was lucky to get his autograph a few months before he passed away. My wife was working at a Nashville Hospital where was a patient (under a different name of course).
i was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky at the time and called me asking if i heard of Johnny Cash. Needless to say, my answer was very sarcastic, because i assumed everyone had heard of who Johnny cash was. She didnt know who he was. Before i shipped overseas (OIF) he was gracious to write a note to me, signing it. Lucky for the wife, she was his nurse and got to meet him and June Carter.
