Yes, they were friendly and liked/respected each other, but none of them were angling to play for super teams. Jordan, Bird, Isaiah, Magic, Kemp (and all 13 of his kids), Hakeem, etc never demanded trades or essentially told 80% of the league that their city wasn’t good enough and to it even try to sign them.
Yes, Bird and Magic played on historic franchises with other HOF’ers, but that’s not exactly the same as say Lebron leaving the Cavs in free agency to sign with Miami and Wade, while also signing Bosh, both top 15 players at the time.
Free agent super teams really dampened interest in the NBA from a casual/slightly serious fan standpoint, unless you were in NYC, Boston, LA, or Miami. It’s why players like Luka, Giannis, Jokic, are celebrated right now. It’s why I still love Derrick Rose.
