Rick Barry had three sons play in the NBA. While none were as good as he was the fact that three of them made it, and another two played college, shows there's some genetics involved.

Making it from hs to college is very hard. I dont remember the exact stat but im thinking it was around 7%.

Look at the Sutter brothers. Five of them played in the NHL. Three Boyer brothers played MLB, and a couple more in the minors.

I think there are absolutely genetics involved, just like race horses, but it can be hit or miss. When it hits - it can be huge. Like Steph Curry, Ken Norton JR etc etc
