There are two issues with your perspective. Firstly, unless mind control becomes feasible, you cannot force anyone to work. Secondly, instead of viewing it as punishment, consider it as a cost-effective solution to a problem.
The main concern with capital punishment is that it must be proven beyond any doubt, not just reasonable doubt. For instance, if a murder is captured on video in a public setting, the perpetrator is in possession of the weapon, and there are eyewitnesses confirming the act, then there's no issue. However, in cases like a woman killing her husband without witnesses, although there's strong suspicion, execution cannot be justified because there's a possibility, however slim, that someone else committed the crime.
