Maybe not the greatest match ever but memorable was Mid-South televised matches at the State Fair in Shreveport. A person in a bear costume was clowning around with kids at ringside for most of the broadcast which seemed to really crack up Boyd Pierce. After the grueling match at the top of the card, the Bear ripped off its costume head and attacked the Face who just won the match. It was Hacksaw Duggan (I think) in the costume and Boyd Pierce exclaimed the Face had been “Pearl Harbored.” But Boyd used that phrase about once an episode anyway…that and “Pier 6 brawl.”

This was back in the territory days, back before the internet, etc and I had no idea I was watching a gimmick that had probably just been used in Florida, Tennessee, etc. They would alter these storylines with each re-use and the reactions would get bigger and bigger each time. Now, they have one shot at a gimmick and if it falls flat, they can’t refine and reuse it in the next territory.

Super brawl 2. Rick rude and Ricky steamboat had an iron man match. It was amazing. 60 mins. It’s hard to wrestle for that long and follow a script.

Heck, any given Saturday morning, you were liable to see Jason, Freddy, A very large cannibal from parts unknown or The Humongous (going by Lord Humongous) from Mad Max 2 show up and wrestle. Or somebody they had to let out of a straight jacket before they'd let him wrestle.
