To add to the back up suggestions, you might look at La Petite Grocery as well.

Another suggestion is Ye Olde College Inn. We have enjoyed every meal there. It's also pretty lively and would fit your atmosphere needs, though it's not terribly intimate. It's more along the lines of fun to me.

You should make a reservation now wherever you can and then you can give Clancy's a try on the given date.

One thing I've noticed about dining out during Jazzfest. It seems clear, a lot of out of towners load up with reservations beforehand, obviously not realizing how long and exhausting a full day out there can be, and how difficult logistically it can be to make a 7:00 dinner reservations, such that I've had decent luck just walking into a lot of places or calling at the last minute and getting in after a number of cancellations.

I'm not suggesting to bank on this, but just to realize restaurants that look "full" now, may not always be on the day of.
