Spring and the Classics have arrived and Milan-San Remo is the first monument. For those that don't know, cycling has five 'monuments', which are generally considered as the most prestigious, most difficult, and longest single-day races. Also among the oldest.

This race is the longest at 288km, about 179mi. That's a long time to be on a bike. Lot closer to 300km after neutral zone, ride to the hotel after the finish etc.

Final 25km should be amazing with two climbs - Cipressa and Poggio - that are famous though not epic like some found in the Tour De France, La Vuelta etc.

This is the 115th edition.

Some favorites:
Matej Mohoric - won in 2022, pretty good all-around cyclist, and sort of famous for a great interview after a stage at the TDF in 2023.

Mathieu van der Poel - won last year, a phenom, great in these classic/monument races. Last year he already had some races under his belt when he started this one, and this year, this is his first race.

Tadej Pogacar - one of the best out there, very young but already won 3 monuments and this would be his 4th out of the 5, if he wins. He destroyed the field at Strade Bianche, an earlier race, and seems to be at an insanely high level right now.

With Pogacar already in great form and having raced earlier this year, and van der Poel not yet having raced this year, I'm leaning toward Pogacar going on the attack on Cipressa, and then rolling to victory.

van der Poel and Pogacar at the lead, 3.5km to go, with a few others just a couple seconds behind.

Fastest MSR ever. 180 miles at 29 mph.

Tadej should tried to break the field on the Cipressa.

That's my opinion as well. I thought that would be his ideal scenario.

MSR has sorta been known as a sprinters monument and that played out today. If you want to win…don’t drag Philipsen to the line.
