Buy a 8-12 year old Lexus...drive the crap out of it for 5-10 years, repeat.
My Lexus turned 21 this year, and I freaking love it...the 10-12 mpg isn't great...but it's smiles per gallon > miles per gallon.

Avalon as well.
They are very well priced used and they'll run for fricking ever.
I'm going to pickup one likely for my daughter's first car.
