Not shooting 3s is bad strategy. Shooting long 2s is bad strategy. There is not an argument to me made otherwise. Nothing in the defensive rules at the time led to these bad strategies.

This was frowned upon in the 90s too. Mid range and paint were the preferable shots then unless you were Reggie Miller or his type and then it was all preferable to shoot the 3 over long 2's for those guys.
