Even if that's true, they still live on a planet that has an ecosystem. And that'll certainly have plants and animals, which they can observe. Even if they can't read THEIR minds, they still either see or have records of various life forms.

Animals and plants 'pretend' to be other species, to ward off predators. Or hide from them. Baboons and ravens will "cooperate" with top predators (lions, wolves) in a game of 'Nope, no predators here!' that's freaking crazy to imagine.

Momma birds will fake having a hurt wing, to lure predators away from finding the nest.

I get it, as super intelligent beings, it's fun to construct some scenario where they'd communicate with us and all is well, but once they find out we "lie", not even to them, that's all it takes for them to declare war on all humanity.




*No idea why the DVs, but maybe y'all don't understand nature or don't like it when the tiniest of holes are poked at your make-believe stories, but that's just how I see it. It's not a dismissal of this story in particular, or the series, which I really do enjoy. We get fascinating sciency stuff regarding space travel, quantum entanglements, radio astronomy, but then to just gloss over other areas just to make the story happen.
