Previously unrated, Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville Magnet wideout Ferzell Shepard leaps into the Top247, literally and figuratively, as one of the truly elite track and field athletes in this football class. Shepard owns sizzling 200- and 400-meter speed — 21.73 and 47.53 seconds, respectively — and his jumps are perhaps even more impressive: 24-plus feet in the long jump, 47-plus feet in the triple jump. And that extreme explosion shows on the gridiron, where Shepard displays a speed-building top end fostering a vertical threat that accompanies some encouraging route-running snap in intermediate-to-deep posts and digs. Texas Tech, UTSA, Louisiana, and Arkansas State have offered Shepard at the FBS level.

This is almost world-class. When I lived in Virginia Beach and was helping LSU recruit Justin Hunter (went to TN after DJ McCarthy was fired), I was at his track meet and watched him do exactly these amazing feats as a high-school junior. Also saw him high-jump 7' the same day, and weather was cold and windy (less than ideal).

This kid is special!
