This is my take as well. I also don't agree with people comparing this incident to hunting or just any normal use of a firearm. A movie set is not your typical deer hunting trip. There is never a time when a hunting rifle should be pointed at a person. Whereas, on a movie set, it's very likely. In fact, it's the script. So no, I don't hold actors to the same safety standards as the typical gun handler. The thing is, live ammo should never be on a movie set. And if there are fully functional weapons on a set, they should be under the direct supervision of an armorer at all times.

There’s no magical law that absolves movie sets from handling guns with the same care and circumspection as a hunter or you and I. In fact, Screen Actors Guild Safety Guidelines specifically state that local laws trump any guidelines.

However, Hollywood has an excellent safety record with guns on set because of SAG guidelines for actors. These include:
- Always assume a gun is loaded unless PROVEN otherwise
- Never point it at anyone
- never pull the trigger unless directed

Baldwin broke all three.

I watched a lot of the trial and in many other scenes it was shown that Baldwin was careless with his weapons.
- firing blanks AFTER the scene was cut
- using the gun as a pointing stick directing people where to go
- having his finger on the trigger when he wasn’t supposed to
