I always wonder if these people grew up poor or in a shitty area then moved to Texas after graduating and getting an engineering job or whatever. Things are way more similar than different in upper middle class enclaves.

What about the objective measures? Like I said compare it to a 3rd world country, yes there are rich people and nice areas in all of them. But Louisiana is absolutely at the bottom when speaking of education, crime, corruption, poverty, incarceration, etc.

This is what I was attempting to portray in my post earlier in the thread. I don't really think that my lifestyle here in Lafayette is much different than it would be in any city of a similar size around the country. The only real difference is distance to things like mountains or beaches.
