I filled out a form that stated that I was declining to fill out the FAFSA. This is a real thing, but you have to insist that you know what you are giving up.
Also, keep in mind that a student can fill out a FAFSA form at any time during the school year if you just want a federal loan. If you change your mind, that is always available.
