Nirvana wasn’t any worse at that than most of the punk and hardcore bands of the late 70’s and 80’s. The difference was that Cobain was a better songwriter, and he had genius level marketing from David Geffan behind him at a time when the public was starving for something new. I think Kurt Cobain is a much better singer than most give him credit for. He doesn’t have the high range like a Steven Tyler, Steve Perry, or Freddie Mercury, but he has a great sweet spot in that growling baritone.

People who hate Nirvana because bands stopped wanking off with guitars in the 90’s should just go ahead and consummate their marriage to an 80’s charvel already by insemination the input jack with tone jizz.

You certainly don't need to be Freddie Mercury or Steve Perry to lead a successful group. Vince Neil can't sing worth a shite and look how popular the Crue is. Lemmy Kilmeister had no vocal range but Motorhead is obviously popular as well. Brian Johnson from AC/DC sings like he's gargling rocks but it worked well for them and they're legends in the rock genre.
