You could throw one of these little Henry rifles in there as well. All the components fit in the butt of the gun and it floats when not put together.

Actually Armalite designed and patented them. James Bond From Russia with Love made them famous.
I've got one of the original 1962 models. It's slicker than owl poop and ultra accurate.

Henry rifle and your pick of a 22 pistol. Can easily bring 1000 rounds of ammo without weighing you down that much. Self defense and shooting food would be covered.
