The source of the Nazis affiliation in Ukraine was rooted in WWII and after Stalin had murdered and starved millions of Ukrainians. When the German's swept the Communists aside, they looked more like liberators to those who suffered most under the Stalinist yoke. Had the Nazis actually acted like liberators things there might have very well turned out different. However, Hitler only wanted the land not the people.
