I really thought he was going to be this absolute psychopath super dark character. He booked a guy alive episode 1.
And now he just goes around making deals with whoever just caught him betraying them.
Really just flying by the seat of his pants.
Makes me think of the Console Wars episodes of Soith Park where the old man is yelling “don’t make a deal with him he’s going to betray you”

He’s definitely a psychopath in his own way in the way that he seems to have an obsession with death or ways to die. The whole Japanese culture at the time was that death by sword or earthquake were really the only two ways to go.
Between boiling the guy alive, risking his life to get the Portuguese sailor on the side of the cliff, apparently having his retainer have some kind of list of rankings of ways to die, to begging commit suicide in unconventional or spectacular ways such as shot by a cannon, and even his death poem - he seemed extremely concerned by the method of death.
Which of course is interesting for a guy that betrays people left and right to keep his own head on his shoulders.
