Terrible idea. Please don't do it.

OP is in a neighborhood, which means there's people with outdoor pets in the area. Rat poison is basically coumadin, a blood thinner dosed by weight. Enough to kill a squirrel is enough to kill a cat or mid sized dog, maybe even a big one. And it remains viable/lethal.
The pest will go off somewhere feeling bad, to die; and then a pet will likely find and eat it. And then the pet too will die.
