They got hacked and had a big security breach at the beginning of last year. Use at your own caution. I'm a fan of Bitwarden myself.

LastPass breach timeline: How a monthslong cyberattack unraveled

IIRC, the joke was on the hackers - everything they got was encrypted anyway.

WRT to LastPass, I use it. I find it more useful than Apple Keychain because it works in more places, but it seems that Apple is trying to force a switch to Keychain, sometimes they step on each other with autofills.

For really critical things, like LastPass access, I use a Yubikey too. Better than cellphone MFA.

I forgot to mention that in the decade or so I've used Lastpass, I've always had it paired with a Yubikey. I've never had anything hacked, but I don't think I had anything hacked before I started to use a vault with 2fa. I regularly do the security checkup and change old passwords, and I have my email addresses monitored through Lastpass so if my email address is associated with any account that has been breached, they send me a heads up and I can change my password for that account if I choose to do so.

Say no to lastpass! Terrible company. Handled the breach horribly and security decisions before the breach were equally awful.

Not so fast… people’s vaults have been cracked and will continue to be more frequently as time goes on and computing power gets cheaper. I doubt many people spent days changing hundreds of passwords.

Experts Fear Crooks are Cracking Keys Stolen in LastPass Breach

1Password browser extension not quite as user friendly as LP (for good security minded reasons) but it works well and is a really well run product with security first.
