Are you really trying to put this lost on Hurd?
I’m not by any means putting the loss on Hurd. My point is that it’s deeply concerning that our Friday night guy can’t make it through 4 full innings in either of his first 2 starts against shite programs

Are you aware the we played a game yesterday and that Thatcher did not, in fact, pitch the first game of this series?

He got pulled in the 5th today, but you’re right that he needs to start going deeper into games

With Hurd he always gets in trouble when he nibbles. His stuff is way too good to get caught up in trying to make perfect pitches. If he’s pounding the strike zone he usually has a really good day.

Hurd for the vast majority of last season wasn't a very good pitcher...he simply wasn't! Some of his stats:
5.68 ERA (much higher than that most of the season but postseason brought it down)...63 IP, 59 Hits (decent but not great), 84 K (great), 40 BB (poor). This season 9.0 ERA, 7 IP, 11 Hits (poor), 12 K (great), 5 BB (poor).

Bottom line: He definitely was a huge part of postseason success LAST season. But this year, LSU IMO has a much better overall pitching staff (obviously doesn't have the one star pitcher that Skenes was). IMO, he should be given a couple more starts but if he can't turn it around, time to shake up the starting rotation.

You’re putting too much stock into him being the “Friday night guy”. It’s a meaningless label at this point. We have options if Hurd isn’t performing.
