None of the universities NEED football… and if they do it’s pretty sad. Supposedly most programs lose money and LSU is the exception and not the norm

Just wait till the players unionize and find the university administrators against them when it’s $$$$$ on the line

Football itself is a huge cash cow. But most athletic departments as a whole lose money. Football revenue subsidizes all the other sports. If you shut down football, D1 athletic departments would collapse because they’d lose tens of millions a year in football profit that fund damn near everything else besides men’s basketball

Football serves as a way to get a school’s name out there by raising visibility.

Similar things happen for basketball, as I believe applications go up for schools like George Mason when they serve as a bracket buster.

This “players are going to unionize” talk does not make sense now. The players are getting money in ways and amounts not seen before, why unionize? In order to gain what….to make some old guys on the SECRant feel better because some sense of order will be enforced?

The fact that college football is hugely popular, is awash in money, and the main protagonists in college football (the players) were only getting a paltry amount of that money for decades put us in this situation. Now that the dam is breaking and large sums of that money is flowing to the players via NIL, it is laughable that the “baws” on this board have turned into a bunch of pearl clutching traditionalists saying, “but loyalty!,……but they get a free dorm room!,…….but they get …..”
