Only logical way to get people to actually enlist. They knew what they were doing, the government that is

You're comparing apples and oranges. There is a world of difference between closely controlled military duty where the undeveloped brain doesn't know fear and the uncontrolled drunk that is on his own and fearing nothing, is acting like a fool. Ever hear "hold my beer and watch this"? There might just be something to it.

This was a good argument back in the day when the draft was inacted, but doesn't hold any water now that the military is strictly volunteer. Or maybe we should pass legislation that enables military volunteers special status regardless of age.
