Dumb is a mild way to describe sending a large portion of your army in a charge where they are basically impotent against the enemy and do nothing but add to the Army of the Dead's numbers when they die.

This was stupid to the Nth degree. The Dothraki, mounted, are faster than the Dead. They had lots of dragon glass chips, and the Dothraki are excellent mounted archers. Staying on the move, they could have done some serious damage to that army, especially since they're concentrated around the castle. And then unlike foot soldiers, they could withdraw to safety after releasing flurries.
