Seriously, I think the fear of the spy/military activity is being blown out of proportion, but no one should be naïve enough to believe that at least some of them are not sponsored on some level.

Almost every vessel that goes into a US port is loaded with cameras sending back real time video surveillance of everything.
Everything dealing with import/export is being monitored
