Stayed up late last night and took down Havel (easier than I remembered), the big butterfly (way easier than I remembered), and did all of the darkroot stuff up (including the hydra) until the Sif fight. I don’t remember the darkroot areas being as small/short as they felt this time around unless I missed something. I got clapped a couple of times by Sif and went to bed. I know the strategy but was probably just too tired to execute

Havel’s difficulty is basically inversely linear with either your level, your ability to parry, or both. I usually try to save him until I have enough HP to face tank one “mistake”, but if I’m feeling froggy, I’ll take him on immediately after kicking down the bridge ladder. Usually takes 10-15 perfect parries/ripostes at that low of a level, but as long as you don’t panic and don’t get juked by his delayed shoulder heft strike, it’s perfectly doable.

Not sure which areas in Darkroot you did, but in Forest, don’t forget the back path down to the grass crest shield and the hally knight and then the golden gollum beyond the hydra that has Dusk. In Garden, you have the optional area behind the living trees with the wolf ring, the area off to the side with the three cats, and frankly, just a lot of optional square footage to explore, but none of it is necessary.

yep, got it all. I think when I played the game the first time I got lost in that area and ended up wandering around too much which made it felt like a bigger zone than it really is. The darkness and the quality of graphics can make it a difficult time where everything kinda looks the same.

Yeah, would agree with this although my strategy was working for the backstabs instead of the parry. He made it very easy for me to work in 2-3 backstabs with my level 8 Halberd.

Speaking of backstabs, I got invaded when I was walking down that steep winding cliffside path in the darkroot area. I lured the guy into larger flat space and was holding my own (I never do PvP in these games...just not very good at it and I don't focus my builds towards PvP success). As I was making my way behind him for a backstab, his fricking character morphed from in front to behind me and he ended up doing the backstabbing. It was a frustrating way to lose 14k souls (I was on my way back to where I previously died and dropped 14k).
