I’ve just looked at calories burned doing hard work and it seems 300-600 per hour is about average.

If you work 12-15 hours per day + 2000 cal required to just be alive. Then you’re at 7000-9000 pretty easily.

I would imagine this wasn’t every day of the week but maybe at certain times of the year.

Hard to imagine this level of output considering how easy we have it today.

It might be hard for us to imagine but there are still people in this world living essentially the same existence today and I would be just as shocked to learn that the average rural Chinese, North Korean,or Central African Rebublic farmer even has access to 9k calories a day, much less averages consuming that many.
