Chopping wood burns 500cal per hour
Do that for 12 hours and that’s 6000 cal.
That makes me more convinced that the op is ridiculous. No one was chopping wood at full intensity for 12 hours. That's one of the highest calorie burning tasks that a midieval farmer would regularly engage in, and, we still have to create a scenario where the average farmer is doing nothing but that, for 12 hours straight, every single day, to even approach that number.

It may be high for the average farmer but it’s not ridiculous at all.

Also keeps in mind they may have been cold as shite at night which burns even more calories.

I’ve just looked at calories burned doing hard work and it seems 300-600 per hour is about average.

If you work 12-15 hours per day + 2000 cal required to just be alive. Then you’re at 7000-9000 pretty easily.

I would imagine this wasn’t every day of the week but maybe at certain times of the year.

Hard to imagine this level of output considering how easy we have it today.
