Republican In Name Only isn't a new term. The OP seems oblivious to the definition or the context of its usage.


If RoadGator was asking to offer some clarification, as in what does it mean TODAY, for example, then fine. But that's not what is seen in the OP.

OP knows what it means. It's a ridiculous question because it assumes that a "true" republican is one that aligns with "conservative" values. Was voting for the Iraq war something that true Republicans did?

It's not. It's malleable, however.

When I first heard it (early-00s) it was a Republican who promoted soft, traditional Democrat policies or avoided hard, traditional Republican policies.

With MAGA, it's a Republican who promotes hard, traditional Republican policies when MAGA wants him/her to promote soft, traditional Democrat policies.
