The brewery boom was great for this. Packed with singles, families, etc.

Often outside, and often with little to do other than socialize with neighbors.

ETA: And they're often unremarkable or even dumpy, which makes them completely unattractive to the crowds that end up exchanging gunfire in the parking lot. In the Southeast, the flashier the communal space, the more likely it'll be on the nightly news. People from other parts of the country don't understand this at all.

Agreed. Bringing your kids or dogs to an outdoor beer garden is great. It's good socialization

I probably just live in a bubble, but I very rarely find myself somewhere with a large population of undesirables. All of the bars or restaurants that I go to are frequented by people who appear to be in a similar station of life.
