I’m not really seeing an issue here. The scumminess of the rate, should be based on its value they get in return. Like a lower rate in one situation could be scummier than a higher rate in another.

It’s like that one quant hedge fund that has had outrageously positive rates of returns for decades, so they charge extremely high fees. But even after fees, clients get a better rate of return the vast majority of other hedge funds, before fees. So their fees aren’t scummy.
