I have a Inmarsat phone and you’re looking about $800/yr. The deal when I got mine was that you were going to pay approx $1500 total for phone/initial minutes. I paid a few extra bucks to be able to roll minutes over and it costs around $800/yr to buy a couple hundred more and roll the rest over.

I used it during hurricane recovery and I’ve used it when traveling in remote areas. Works well but it’s expensive and I think starlink will make it less useful for things like a hurricane since you can simply use WiFi calling with generator and starlink.

Makes sense for select applications. Hiking isn't one of them.
