He didn’t say anything overly controversial. It’s doing the interview at all that was “controversial”

Guess you didnt watch then

Putin insinuated that Russia has been putting in effort to join the west and be accepted rather than be an enemy and that in response, the US only antagonized Russia and pulled the rug out several times.

He said the US was sponsoring terrorism in the Caucuses.

He said that the US orchestrated a coup in Ukraine in 2014 and that Ukraine is a US satellite state

He said he asked to join NATO, was given a positive response by Clinton, then shut down by the State Dept

He insinuated that the US controls most of the global media

He claimed that he wanted to jointly do missile defense with Europe and the US but was denied. He claims he was told that missile defense was geared towards Iran.

He claims that Ukraine celebrates Nazis and men who worked with the Nazis to kill Poles, Jews and Russians

Insinuated that the CIA destroyed Nord Stream pipelines

Claimed that Ukraine is an artificial state that is has a fragmented Russian, Hungarian and Polish culture

There was plenty he said that would be news to the average Joe in the US
