Good music never ages.
I work at Goodwill and I have seen many of the resellers wear shirts that had Metallica and Hendrix as examples. They were in late teens or early 20s.
The song sound of silence by Simon and Garfunkel wasn't a huge hit in the early 70s but when Disturbed covered it, it exploded in popularity. Now everyone wants to cover that song.
The song 16 tons by Merle Travis and Tennessee Ford back in the day was popular but faded as time went on. South Park decided to play the song during an episode that involved Amazon. That song was well liked and it grew in popularity.
Fallout New Vegas played older songs and one of them was big iron by Marty Robbins and the song began to grow in popularity.
Family Guy use to play Conway Twitty which was intended to annoy the network and TV viewers. Well some viewers commented that I never heard of this dude but he is actually pretty good.
