With 1 major exception. Our program is on probation.
I don't know what exception you are referring to, but you are correct, the program is on probation. However, the sanctions are minor.

And for McMahon’s 1st 2 years the impending sanctions loomed large.
Did they?

Ain’t no way elite players were even considering coming to LSU.
Can I interest you in some facts?
His first class he signed two top 100 prospects (Reed and Ward). To put that into context, that was AS MANY top 100 prospects as the following programs signed: Texas, Auburn, Villanova, Baylor, Houston, Michigan St. It was MORE than the following programs: UConn, Creighton, Purdue, Gonzaga,
His 2023 (HS) signing class was ranked 50th in the country. Awful, right? Must be the probation...until you look at that number in context. Auburn had the 67th best class in 2023. Gonzaga the 70th. Purdue 73rd. Arizona 74th!!! I'd say those programs are pretty good. Maybe probation kept great players from going there too

As far as enthusiasm goes, reported attendance is often a misleading stat. That's because the reports are almost always PAID attendance vs. actual attendance. As someone who has been a season ticket holder through the Jones, Wade, and McMahon eras, I can tell you the lack of enthusiasm and actual attendance now compared to a few years ago is easily noticeable. That's not surprising because the team has (to date) a losing record since McMahon became HC. But to deny the current state of apathy is at best, disingenuous. At worst, just ridiculous.
I don't want McMahon to fail. I really don't. Not because we are bestest friends (I don't know the guy). But because a winning LSU basketball team brings me entertainment and enjoyment. Unfortunately, they just aren't winning. So I can't bemoan those who simply don't care.

So we had 2 players ranked in the top 100. But when you surround them with players like Adam miller and Parker Edwards that’s not a winning recipe. And yes the sanctions loomed large. The possibility of postseason bans being one of the biggest. We had absolutely no shot of bringing in elite players. That’s a fact. We still have subpar talent. Let’s see what we can do over the course of the next year. The hole that the previous regime dug ain’t gonna be fixed unless CJ or Shaq walks through the door

To be completely objective, every one of those programs had a roster full of talent already assembled, there was no need to sign 5 guys out of high school. McMahon on the other hand, had Mwani Wilkinson. That's it. Apples to oranges
