A 270 would be fine for elk, as would a 280 ackley and a dozen other cartridges. Browning xbolt 2 looks pretty cool.

The reason to get a 7mag or 270 would be to get a tikka superlite, because it’s an excellent option that will give you money back for glass or to upgrade the stock, which is 100% the route I would take.

That said, this thread will be filled with people claiming the 7PRC doesn’t do anything the 7 mag doesn’t. Pick your bullet, see if it will load to a decent case length in a 7 mag chamber, and that will tell you which one you want. The part everyone overlooks in every “mah old .260 rem will do that” pissing match is that the PRC comes off the rack with all the shite already done to load anything, and the bullet is what matters.

For what though? To shoot at 1000yds? To kill elk at 500 yds? Browning and Remington make a factory 1:8 twist 7mm rem mag. So what does the PRC do that the old 7 doesn't?

Does the PRC kill game deader? Will a 195gr kill better than a 160gr? Reinventing the wheel doesn't change that it still goes round.
