I picked my hat up (a Hawaii University hat of all things), put it back on, shot the neighbor a look and a nod, got back in the truck and calmly left.

I honestly expected charges over that, but she never went back to the house and he never said a word to police. The neighbor told her dad and brother when they were moving her stuff that he had a pretty good idea what that was over, and he was a forgetful person by nature.
