I suppose part of the reasoning for charging her, and not you in your example, is he was 16 at the time of the shooting. Does State law allow him to own the gun, or is it technically the parents gun? She also testified that she did not believe it was her responsibility to ensure the gun was properly stored and locked away, that was her husband's job. Those 2 facts could have been enough to have some jurors leaning towards a guilty verdict. Then add the fact that the school tried to get one of the parents to pick him up before the shooting, but she didn't have time for it and needed to go to work; that's pretty damning.
