Philly isn’t bad for a long weekend. As other posters have said, lots of historical sites.
The Reading Terminal Market, specifically DiNic’s and the Victor Cafe are must do’s when we’re there.
The Victor Cafe was the restaurant Adrian’s in Rocky Balboa and Creed I and II. The waiters are all singers for the Philadelphia Opera and every 20 minutes they will sing for the patrons. Cool experience and they have a nice but tiny lounge upstairs.

If you’re looking for historical sites, maybe try Charleston or Savannah instead?
If you’re set on doing something up northeast, I recommend flying into Hartford or Boston and getting a car to drive through New England.
There’s a lot of literary historical sites: Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe houses in Hartford. Emily Dickinson and Edith Wharton houses are a short drive across the MA border in western Mass.
